Apple Crisp Recipe With Oats

This homemade apple crisp is one of my personal favorite apple desserts. It's made with fresh apples and topped with the best crunchy oat topping for the best texture! Perfectly tender apples bake beneath the sweet oat crumble. This easy apple crisp recipe is a must during apple season, but my family enjoys it any time of year. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (and maybe a drizzle of caramel sauce) for the ultimate classic fall dessert.

Ingredients

For the Apple Filling

  • 6 medium apples, or about 6 cups (thinly sliced about ¼ inch thick)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

For the Crisp Topping

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup oats (old fashioned oats or quick oats)
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted melted butter

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and grab an 8x8 baking dish (or any baking dish that is 2 to 2.5 quarts).
  • Peel and slice the apples into ¼-inch to ½-inch slices.
  • In a large mixing bowl, stir together the granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour. Add the apple slices and toss until well coated. Pour the apple mixture into your prepared baking dish.
  • In another bowl, mix the oats, brown sugar, flour, and ½¼ teaspoon cinnamon until combined. Pour in the slightly cooled, melted butter and stir until all the dry ingredients are evenly coated and the mixture looks crumbly—everything should be moistened.
  • Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly on top of the apples, gently patting it down without packing it too tightly.
  • Bake for about 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apple juices are bubbling around the edges.
  • Let cool slightly, then serve warm apple crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce, if you’d like!

Notes

  • How to Store: Allow the apple crisp to cool completely, then cover it with plastic wrap or transfer it to an airtight container. Store it in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
  • How to Reheat: To enjoy your apple crisp warm again, simply heat it in the oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes until it’s heated through and the topping is crispy again. You can also microwave individual servings for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
